Jonathan Silcock, 37, from Manchester in the U.K., had gone to the doctors over a year ago to complain about symptoms such as vomiting and persistent weight loss. Doctors initially said the symptoms were that of a stomach bug. Months later, in February of this year, they decided to refer him to a hospital where checks including an endoscopy and a biopsy were carried out. Within days, Silcock found that he had stage four pancreatic cancer....

The decision was passed at a meeting of the Council of Ministers, which tackled new policies that allow sports figures, from athletes to coaches and trainers, to profit from their talents, reports Xinhua. The new policies are set to take effect in January 2014, ending Cuba’s decades old ban on professional sports and hopefully stemming the tide of athletes that have had to defect to accept lucrative contracts abroad....

The vote in Cuba, scheduled for September, would rewrite nearly half of the nation’s Family Code, which until 2019 strictly defined marriage as “a voluntary union between a man and a woman.” That language was removed after a previous referendum held that year. The team filed its lawsuit on Friday in federal court in Chicago against John Paul Weier, Patrick Weier and three other unidentified individuals whom the team says dress in the bear costume, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The fake mascot — not to be confused with the team’s new official mascot, “Clark the Cub” — wears a Cubs hat and number 78 jersey that has the name “Billy Cub” on the back....
