As seen in the brief interview below between the YouTuber known as YongYea and Cyberpunk 2020 creator Mike Pondsmith, Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be ready when CD Projekt Red is prepared to put it out, which could be beyond 2020. As stated by Pondsmith, “I’ve waited 30 years to get to this and it was worth it. You guys can wait a few more years, it will be worth it,” implying that it may still be a ways off from release.
As of now, CD Projekt Red has yet to offer up a concrete launch time, or even as much of a general window as to when fans should expect to see Cyberpunk 2077 officially hit store shelves, but the developer has previously stated it’s aiming for a current-gen release date. Of course, with the studio only hoping to have the action-RPG ready to be available during the console era of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, there’s always a chance that it becomes a project for the PS5 or Microsoft’s next system.
Bearing this all in mind, should players have to wait a while longer for Cyberpunk 2077 to come out, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing. For instance, the creator Mike Pondsmith seems downright pleased with how the project’s progressing so far, so if CD Projekt Red’s adaptation needs more time in development, the best course of action for fans is to simply not rush those working on it. After all, the studio’s last outing was one of the most popular and critically acclaimed ventures of all time: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but lacks an official launch date.
