Speaking to WCCFTech, Liu discussed a lot of game details including the game’s primary setting of Night City, various in-game systems and mechanics, making the game accessible, and technical features. The romance stands out as Liu tried to be very careful in order to avoid spoilers for the game but essentially stated that romance in Cyberpunk 2077 would be realistic and distinct.
Liu stated that the team wanted to write “strong characters” with “personalities that you can interact with,” referring to Triss and Yennefer from The Witcher 3 as examples of characters who fit the bill. This isn’t the first time that Cyberpunk 2077’s romance has been compared to The Witcher 3, with that prior reveal stating there would be way more than heterosexual options and whole plotlines.
Beyond the plotline-based relationships, Liu explained that this was a modern world with modern approaches to sexual relationships. One-night stands exist, for example, and seemingly mean that Cyberpunk 2077 players can hit on and pick up in-game NPCs. This contrasts the other example provided by Liu, and that’s where players can simply pay for sex as well in a Grand Theft Auto-like manner. Here are Liu’s exact words on the matter:
Speaking of Grand Theft Auto, Cyberpunk 2077 has a similar Wanted system, but unlike GTA where the police would fight until killed or evaded, the police of 2077 are corrupt and take bribes in a manner similar to the guards of Skyrim. It’s game mechanics like romance, this Wanted system, and more that help put Cyberpunk 2077 on the hype train, so it’ll be interesting to see these mechanics in action when the game launches in April 2020.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on April 16, 2020, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
