Unlike Cyberpunk 2077, which will let players control the cyberpunk V, Afterlife will put players in the role of Fixers, who are agents in-charge of dealing with smuggled goods and information, who then recruits cyberpunks to accomplish their work. The Fixers in Afterlife will be responsible for gathering a group of cyberpunks, equipping them with the necessary tools and weapons, and sending them out on missions.
For each successful mission, players would raise their Street Cred, which the developer describes as “the only currency that matters” in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. The card game’s official description sums everything up saying: “The game thrusts players into the dark alleyways of Night City, where ruthless gangs clash with corporations in an endless war for money, power, and control.”
Cyberpunk 2077 - Afterlife will be created by CD Projekt Red in collaboration with board game publisher Cmon, who is known for its partnerships with other video games including Bloodborne, and the upcoming God of War board game. Of course, a spin-off card game for Cyberpunk 2077 is not that surprising given that CD Projekt Red’s other franchise, The Witcher, got the same treatment with the release of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game.
The spin-off card game is not the only thing that Cyberpunk 2077 is borrowing from The Witcher. Yesterday, the developer confirmed that the upcoming game would get its own version of The Witcher 3’s popular concert Priscilla. The studio revealed that for the sci-fi RPG, the concert would be much bigger and grander than the one in The Witcher.
Given the growing popularity of Cyberpunk 2077 despite that it’s still under development, it is interesting to see which other medium it will branch out to. CD Projekt Red already mentioned before that because of the attention Cyberpunk 2077 is getting ever since the announcement of Keanu Reeves, the possibility of a movie adaptation of the upcoming game is becoming more likely.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on April 16, 2020, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, while Cyberpunk 2077 - Afterlife: The Card Game is slated to launch sometime in 2020.
