Many of the new features in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are actually reminiscent of those seen in the popular Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which released at the beginning of the year. Though walking alongside your Pokemon, for example, is not a particularly new feature seen in the series of games, Pokemon Legends: Arceus introduced a whole new level of depth to how you could interact with your Pokemon in the world and how they could help you with small tasks. Game Freak appear to be further developing the potential in this regard, as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players have discovered lots of new ways of playing with their Pokemon since the games released in November, including the ability to somewhat communicate with Pokemon – even wild ones – by watching them react to player emotes.

The clip in question was shared on Reddit by the user Quanto-Ryo8, which featured a cute moment of the Trainer playing with what appears to be their own shiny Toxtricity. The clip starts out with the player interacting with their Pokemon in the middle of a field, the trainer performing different movements such as sneaking presumably in an attempt to elicit a reaction from the Toxtricity. This seemed to have had an effect, as the Pokemon returned the gesture by performing their own emote which made it appear as though they were picking up their Trainer in a hug. To top it off, the Toxtricity then proceeded to simply fall asleep on the player’s feet.
The new picnic mechanic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet also allows players to bond with their Pokemon in a new way, enabling players to hand make a variety of different sandwiches in the Pokemon world that are based on a real life Spanish snack. These sandwiches can be made with tons of different ingredients, with different configurations creating sandwiches that can provide plenty of useful boons to gameplay, with some even making it easier to find shiny Pokemon.
Despite the many new fun gameplay features for fans to enjoy, it’s no secret that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are hindered by many technical issues which cause performance problems and glitches. These setbacks have comprised the majority of criticisms directed at the games since their launch, and have resulted in Scarlet and Violet becoming the most poorly-rated main Pokemon titles in the series’ history.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available on Nintendo Switch.
