Reportedly, GTA 6 will release as “moderately sized,” with the game expanding out from there like an evolving world. It remains to be seen how that works or if that is truly the case, but one thing GTA 6 could benefit from is adding or taking advantage of cut content/ideas from GTA 5.

GTA 5 Ending: Playable Lamar

In GTA 5, there’s three different endings: Franklin killing Trevor, Franklin killing Michael, or Franklin, Trevor, and Michael undertaking their own suicide mission together, emerging victorious against their antagonist. However, there was another ending (which could have replaced the last one, though that’s speculation) where Franklin died. In this ending/following events of the game, Lamar Johnson would have taken over for Franklin as a playable character. It’s an interesting, emotional prospect; after all, Red Dead Redemption protagonists die and are followed by a close friend/family. It’s really the same concept, and it’s something that could be applied to GTA 6.

Like its predecessor, GTA 6 is likely to have multiple protagonists, but one way it could keep emotion and suspense in its ending is having a character die. While the third ending to GTA 5 is perhaps the coolest, the deaths as Franklin turns on one friend are heartbreaking. GTA 6 could continue to utilize this, but replace the passing character with someone who has a small story related to the deceased character. It would be a unique and emotional combination of Red Dead Redemption and GTA 5 in Grand Theft Auto 6.

GTA 5 Small Details: Basketball Mini-Game

Small details in video games are important, as they help bring the surrounding world to life. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prime example of this, as players continue to find things they never noticed before to this day. In San Andreas, some mini-games had the same effect. While gyms and working out could buff up CJ (and would be interesting to return in GTA 6 in and of itself), arguably the biggest was Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ basket-ball mini-game. It was beloved by many, but added nothing to the game really. It was rather limited, but it was fun. Basketball mini-games would be perfect for GTA 6, as at least one way of bringing its world to life, especially after being cut out of GTA 5.

GTA 6 Six Star Wanted Level

In most Grand Theft Auto games, the wanted level would go up to six-stars, but GTA 5 only goes up to give. Code for the game shows that a sixth level existed at some point, but it ended up not making it into the final game. Five stars is difficult enough, but it’s not clear why it was cut: perhaps it was due to difficulty scaling, maybe because five stars works best with Grand Theft Auto 5, or any other number of reasons. Still, if GTA 6 is going to up the ante, there’s no a better way to do it than adding that next level.

Six stars would match the numbered title of the next entry, and it could really push the criminal vs. police idea of the games. In GTA 5, Michael, Trevor, and Michael were absolute monsters that, in the story of it, basically flaunted the law. Hopefully, Grand Theft Auto 6 gives the police their own weight against the terrorizing PCs.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is reportedly in development.
