The subreddit for Cuphead has several threads posted by gamers looking for a fix to the issue, with many reporting entire worlds of lost progress. All of them are playing the game from Windows 10, and several have been trying a few different workarounds to no avail. Now, one redditor reports that Studio MDHR actually gave him some feedback which seems to have helped a few players avoid the glitch:
Studio MDHR hasn’t commented on why alt-tabbing out of the game seems to cause the error, but at least the developers have apparently narrowed down the problem. There’s no definitive timeline on when the studio will have this fix ready for PC, but at least hotfixes can be rolled out more quickly on Windows 10 than they can for Xbox One. Cuphead producer Maja Moldenhauer also stated that the game might get online multiplayer support post-launch, so the future for Cuphead is certainly looking brighter.
The game is notoriously difficult enough even without save issues undoing hours of progress, though there are certainly a few ways gamers can make things easier for themselves. Unlike modern traditional difficulty settings, Cuphead just has a standard difficulty and a simple mode – though gamers who pick the latter won’t be able to progress to the next world until they beat each boss in the regular difficulty. Hopefully going forward, each player will get to keep those accomplishments saved.
Cuphead is available now on Xbox One and PC.
