The reason for Crytek’s decision is simple enough. It wants to polish Crysis Remastered some more in order to meet fan expectations. Crytek even cites fan reactions to the leaked Crysis Remastered trailer as the reason for its decision. “We’ve seen the reactions – the good and the bad – and we’re listening!” is as much as Crytek is willing to say on the matter. As such, Crytek says it’s working on “a number of things” including Crysis Remastered’s storefront.

As for what Crytek wants to focus on with the extra time, it says that it wants to get Crysis Remastered “up to the PC and console-breaking standard” that fans expect from the classic game. Crysis, during its prime, was well-known to be a great benchmark for testing PC hardware. That obviously isn’t going to be something Crytek can also do with consoles, but it can definitely push console hardware further than what was shown in the leaked trailer.

In the meantime, Crytek asks fans to be patient and understanding of the situation, saying “We hope you understand what we’re up to - and that you stay with us while we take the time to make a few more improvements.” The game was originally leaked to launch on July 23, so with a delay of several weeks, an August or September release date seems likely.

Exactly how much can be done with a game in just a few weeks remains to be seen, especially with the game being so near to its release date already. That’s clearly not enough time for major changes, but Crytek can certainly make adjustments, bugfix, and clean up any UI graphical problems.

Crysis is coming back, but its remaster is already off to an auspicious start. Maybe Crysis was never intended to release off of the PC after all.
